ATHENS, Ga. – The sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs scored a combined 26 runs on 22 hits in a pair of five-inning shutout victories over Virginia Tech, 8-0, and Western Carolina, 18-0, on Saturday in the Third-Annual Red & Black Showcase at the UGA Softball Stadium.

Georgia moves to 4-0 in the tournament with Saturday's two wins while improving to 7-1 on the year. Winthrop, who Georgia will face Sunday at 2 p.m. ET, improved to 2-2 this season by defeating Virginia Tech, 2-0, and Bowling Green (2-5), 9-7, in the two early games.

The Bulldogs offensive attack also included six home runs and nine stolen bases. Against Virginia Tech, UGA was led by junior Brianna Hesson's 3-for-3, career-high four RBI performance, and versus Western Carolina junior Alisa Goler went 2-for-3 with a team-best five RBI. Hesson extended her hitting streak to a career-best 10 games against the Hokies but saw it come to an end against the Catamounts. Sophomore Ashley Razey added two home runs on the day to push her team leading total to six while long balls were also hit by Hesson, Goler, Sandberg and Trout.

Georgia's performance from the circle was strong once again as well with sophomore Erin Arevalo (2-1) pitching a complete-game against the Hokies allowing just three hits and two walks and striking out five. Junior Sarah McCloud (3-0) worked three innings versus the Catamounts allowing just three hits with three strikeouts, and freshman Alison Owen pitched the final two innings of the day giving up just one hit with four strikeouts.

Taking the respective losses on the day for Virginia Tech and Western Carolina were Kenzie Roark (1-3) and Katie King (0-2).

The Red & Black Showcase will conclude with three games on Sunday. The original start times for Sunday's game have been moved back 30 minutes to allow for morning frost to clear from the field before play begins. The first game will feature Virginia Tech and Bowling Green at 9:30 a.m. followed by Western Carolina and Winthrop at 11:45 a.m. Georgia will play in the tournament's final game against Winthrop at 2 p.m. Live stats for all games will be available on http://www.georgiadogs.com, and live audio can be heard for the Bulldogs' contest.

Game 1: Georgia 8, Virginia Tech 0

WP: Erin Arevalo (2-1)
LP: Kenzie Roark (1-3)

Georgia's big inning against Virginia Tech came in the first when the Bulldogs posted five runs. A pair of walks and stolen bases by junior Taylor Schlopy and Goler put runners at second and third for Hesson, who delivered a two-run single up the middle. Later in the inning, Sandberg provided her home run on the day, a three-run shot to left center.

Combined with Sandberg's long ball, the final six runs for Georgia in the game would come via the home run. In the second, Razey hit her first of two home runs on the day with a one-out, solo blast to center. In the fifth after Goler drew a four-pitch walk, Hesson belted a two-run, game ending walk off homer to center.

Game 2: Georgia 18, Western Carolina 0

WP: Sarah McCloud (3-0)
LP: Katie King (0-2)

Against Western Carolina, Georgia scored in every inning with 11 players recording hits, and nine Bulldogs produced at least one RBI.

In the first, sophomore Kristyn Sandberg and junior Megan Wiggins were the first in the game to pick up RBI with back-to-back run scoring singles.

In the second, freshman Sara Sikes drew a one-out walk setting up an RBI double to center from sophomore Ashley Pauly to begin a five-run inning. After another walk later inning the inning to Schlopy, Goler provided a two-run single to left, and two batters after that, Razey hit her second home run of the day.

Georgia would post another five runs in the third. With the bases full, Schlopy hit a line-drive off the top of the left field wall to plate two runs, and Goler came up next and hit a three-run homer to right center.

The Bulldogs batted around in the third and would do so again in the fourth when they scored an additional six runs. After Sike drew another walk, Pauly singled to right. On the play, Western Carolina attempted to get Sikes out a third, which allowed Pauly to advance to second. An attempt to get Pauly out at second on the same play allowed Sikes to score, and a third throw attempt for an out on Sikes allowed Pauly to take third. Next, junior Lacey Pierce recorded her first hit as a Bulldog on an RBI double down the left field line. Two batters later, sophomore Tori Moody drove in a run on a single, and she was followed by Trout's three-run home run to center. Also in the inning, freshman Macie Couey recorded her first-career hit.
