BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Georgia sophomore Erin Arevalo has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week according to announcement made by the league on Monday.
Arevalo, a native of Lathrop, Calif., made three appearances in the third-annual Red & Black Showcase this past weekend going 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, just five walks and 23 strikeouts in 18.0 innings. All three of Arevalo's appearances were complete games, the first three of her career. Two of the outings were also shutouts, and the only run that scored against her on the week was unearned.
In her first of two outings against Virginia Tech, Arevalo went seven innings allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out a career-high nine batters. In her second appearance versus the Hokies, Arevalo went five innings scattering three hits while striking out five. Against Winthrop, Arevalo pitched a one-hitter in six innings allowing just two walks while matching her newly set career-high in strikeouts with another nine.
The SEC Pitcher of the Week honor is the first weekly honor from the league in Arevalo's career, and it marks the second-straight week that the award has gone to a Bulldog with junior Sarah McCloud earning the recognition last week. The only previous time Georgia has earned the SEC Pitcher of the Week in consecutive weeks was in 1999, when Natalie Price took home the honor twice.
