ATHENS, Ga. – The sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs will play host to the Seventh-Annual Georgia Softball Classic this weekend at the UGA Softball Stadium.
 
The tournament will take place Friday through Sunday and will feature the Bulldogs (8-1) along with visiting teams Charleston Southern (7-4-1), Iowa State (6-5), South Alabama (4-5) and St. John's (4-1).
 
Live stats for all Georgia Softball Classic games can be found on http://www.georgiadogs.com, and live audio will also be available for games involving the Bulldogs.
 
GEORGIA SOFTBALL CLASSIC SCHEDULE (All Times Eastern):
Friday, Feb. 26:
11 a.m.                    South Alabama vs. Iowa State
1:15 p.m.                 South Alabama vs. St. John’s

Saturday, Feb. 27:

GEORGIA NOTES:
Ranked Sixth
In the latest release of the national collegiate softball polls, Georgia was ranked as high as No. 6 in the USA Softball/ESPN.com poll. The Bulldogs were also ranked No. 8 in the NFCA/USA Today poll.
 
Season Long Home Stand
Georgia is in the midst of 21-game home stand and is currently 5-0. The home stand started Feb. 19-21 with the Red & Black Showcase and will end on March 17 against Furman. The home stand will include three home tournaments, a double-header with Florida, a three-game series with Alabama and the contest with Furman. The next road trip on the schedule will come March 20-21, when UGA travels to Knoxville, Tenn., to play the Tennessee Lady Volunteers.
 
Going, Going Gone
Eight Bulldogs have combined to hit 22 home runs through nine games (2.44 per game)
 
Last year, Georgia set a school record with 85 home runs, and after nine games the 2009 squad had hit 16 home runs (1.44 per game).
 
Bulldogs to hit home runs in 2010: Brianna Hesson (5), Ashley Razey (5), Alisa Goler (3), Ashley Pauly (3), Amberlie Saxton (2), Laura Trout (2), Kristyn Sandberg (1) and Taylor Schlopy (1).
 
Consecutive Games With A Home Run
Georgia has hit a home run in all nine games played this year. In comparison, last year’s record-setting home run team’s longest consecutive games with a home run streak was seven on two separate instances.
 
Batting Around
The Bulldogs have batted around five times this season.
   
Hitting Streaks
Georgia’s longest current hitting streak is freshman Amberlie Saxton’s six games.
 
Junior Brianna Hesson started the season with a hit in seven-straight games, and dating back to last season her career-long hitting streak lasted 10 games.
 
Stolen Bases Add Another Dimension To Georgia Offense
Georgia has stolen 29 bases on 32 attempts this season, which is 31.2% of last year’s 78 swipes -- that’s just after nine games. Runners who have stolen at least one base have led to 19 runs scored.

In the Red & Black Showcase, Georgia posted the second and third highest single-game run totals in school history against Bowling Green and Western Carolina

The Biggest Inning in UGA History
On Feb. 19 against Bowling Green, Georgia’s third inning was the biggest in school history with 17 plate appearances and 13 runs (on 11 hits).
 
McCloud and Arevalo Earn Back-To-Back SEC Pitcher of the Week Honors
The first two SEC Pitcher of the Week honors for the 2010 season went to Georgia pitchers Sarah McCloud (2/15) and Erin Arevalo (2/22).    
 
McCloud, a junior, earned the recognition following the opening week of the 2010 season when she made two appearances going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA including a five-inning, complete-game one-hit shutout over UCF.
 
Arevalo, a sophomore, garnered the honor after the Red & Black Showcase, where she pitched the first three complete games of her career going 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 23 strikeouts including a one-hitter against Winthrop.
 
The only previous time Georgia has earned the SEC Pitcher of the Week in consecutive weeks was in 1999, when Natalie Price took home the honor twice. 
 
Dogs Win Red & Black Showcase
Last week, Georgia hosted its first of three-straight home tournaments, the third-annual Red & Black Showcase, and the Bulldogs won the tournament by going 5-0 and outscoring opponents 59-5. As a team, the Dogs batted .419 with 13 home runs and 21 stolen bases.
