ATHENS----University of Georgia freshman shortstop Kyle Farmer will be out three to six weeks due a left wrist injury, Bulldog coach David Perno announced Tuesday.

Farmer has a hamate fracture in his left wrist. He is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday. The injury occurred during last Friday’s win over Stetson in Athens.

Farmer ranks second on the team in batting (.458) and slugging percentage (.667). He started the first six games at shortstop and owns a .935 fielding percentage in 31 total chances. Since Farmer’s injury, Georgia has moved third baseman Colby May to shortstop and put either redshirt freshman infielder Kevin Ruiz or sophomore catcher Christian Glisson at third base.

The No. 25 Bulldogs (6-2) are riding a four-game winning streak and return to action Wednesday against Alabama (5-0). First pitch is slated for 7:35 p.m. ET, and the game with the Crimson Tide will be played at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Ala. From there, Georgia will play a three-game series at sixth-ranked Florida State (6-0) starting Friday.
