KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Sixth-ranked Georgia split a Southeastern Conference double header with 17th-ranked Tennessee on Saturday, falling 5-4 before winning 10-6, in front a Sherri Parker Lee Softball Stadium season-high crowd of 1,002. With the split of the twin bill, Georgia moves to 21-4 overall and 2-3 in SEC action while Tennessee goes to 21-6 overall and 3-2 in league play. The two teams will meet for the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Saturday's double header was the tale of two different late-innings rallies for the Bulldogs. In game one, Tennessee built a four-run lead after fiving innings and held off a late UGA rally for the one-run victory. In game two, Tennessee carried a four-run lead into the sixth, where the Bulldogs scored eight runs on five hits en route to the win. From the circle, Ivy Renfroe (11-1) notched the win in game after working 5.1 innings allowing three runs on seven hits, and Jessica Spigner earned her first save after working the seventh inning. In game two, freshman Alison Owen (2-0) pitched four innings in relief of sophomore starter Sarah McCloud allowing one run while striking out five for the win. On the losing end of the two contests were Georgia's Erin Arevalo (13-3) and Spigner. In game one, Tennessee picked up the first two runs of the day in the second inning. After loading the bases, Lauren Gibson and Erinn Webb were each credited with an RBI after a walk and a sacrifice fly, respectively. In the fourth, Georgia cut the lead down to 2-1 on an RBI single through the left side from junior Jennie Auger, but Tennessee answered with two more runs in the bottom of the frame on a home run to right from Gibson. The Lady Vols extended the lead to 5-1 in the fifth when Kelly Grieve doubled down the right field line, moved to third on a groundout and later scored on a double form Jessica Spigner. Georgia's late rally in the first game came in over both the sixth and seventh frames. Sophomore Alisa Goler led off the sixth with a solo home run to right center, her fourth of the year. Two batters later, sophomore Kristyn Sandberg, who extended her career-best hitting streak to 11 games with a double earlier in the game, doubled again to right center. After a groundout moved freshman pinch runner Sara Sikes to third, junior Laura Trout drove in another run on an infield single to second. In the seventh, junior Megan Wiggins hit a leadoff solo home run to straight-away center, her third of the season. The Bulldogs then put the next two batters on base before Tennessee turned to Spigner in the circle to close out the game. In game two, Tennessee built another four-run lead after the first three innings with a three-run home run in the second from Webb and with a RBI from Tiffany Huff on a Georgia error. In the fourth, the two teams exchanged single runs to make it a 5-1 contests. In the top half of the frame, junior Taylor Schlopy hit a solo home run to right, her sixth of the season. In the bottom half, Ashley Andrews scored on a sacrifice fly from Grieve after tripling to right field. The Bulldogs then posted their successful rally in game two in the sixth inning scoring eight runs on five hits. After a pair of walks and a groundout, Tennessee turned to Spigner in relief of Cat Hosfield in the circle. Junior Brianna Hesson greeted the pitching change with an RBI single to deep shortstop, and Sandberg followed with a run-scoring single up the middle to extend her career-best hitting streak to 12 games. Next, Trout drew another walk to load the bases, and Tennessee brought in Renfroe to pitch. Auger then made the second out of the inning on a sacrifice fly to left that brought the score to 5-4. However, the big inning for the Bulldogs continued as sophomore Ashley Pauly provided the go-ahead hit, a two-run single through the right side of the infield. After Schlopy extended the inning by beating out an infield single to short, Wiggins hit her second home run of the day and fourth of the season, a three-run blast to right center. In the bottom of the sixth and top of the seventh, the two teams exchanged solo home runs to bring the score to its final margin. Raven Chavanne hit the long ball for UT while Hesson hit her eighth home run of the year for the Bulldogs on an opposite field shot to right. Hesson's home run, Georgia's fifth of the day, brought the Dogs' season total to 48 long balls. Live stats and live audio for Sunday's series finale will be available on http://www.georgiadogs.com
