Best Of The Best
While Georgia did not win the SEC team championship this season,
three Gym Dogs claimed SEC individual titles and two more were
runners-up: Courtney McCool won the SEC floor title with a 9.950, Kat
Ding won the SEC bars title with a 9.925 and Hilary Maruo tied for
first on vault with a 9.900. Grace Taylor finished second on balance

9.875.

Worley Out Of Action
Georgia freshman standout Shayla Worley suffered an ankle sprain
during the Gym Dogs’ win over LSU on Feb. 26 and missed the final
three meets of the regular season in addition to the SEC Championship.

The Orlando, Fla., native was twice named SEC Freshman of the Week.
She scored a 39.500 in the all-around against Kentucky on Feb. 5,
tied for the ninth-highest score of any SEC gymnast this season. She
also posted a 9.950 on floor against the Wildcats, tied for third-
best in the league so far.

Highest Road Score In Three Years
Georgia’s 197.150 at Florida on Feb. 19 was then the highest score by
an SEC road team in a conference meet since 2007, and it was the
sixth-highest score in the last five years; the highest is Georgia’s
197.425 at LSU in 2007. Alabama’s 197.225 at Kentucky on Feb. 26 was
the highest score in an SEC road meet this season, and Georgia’s
197.150 in Gainesville was second.

Grace’s 10
Senior Grace Taylor became the first gymnast in the country to record
a perfect 10 on the balance beam in Georgia’s win over third-ranked
UCLA on March 6. It was the 155th perfect 10 in Georgia’s history and
the 10th on beam. For Taylor, it was her third career 10 and second
on the balance beam. It is also the only 10 by an SEC gymnast so far
this season.

One For The Record Books
Georgia and UCLA re-wrote the record books when the two teams met on
March 6. The Gym Dogs edged the Bruins, 197.900-197.875, the smallest
margin possible in college gymnastics. The combined total score of
395.775 is the highest in Georgia history and UCLA’s score is the
highest ever by a Georgia opponent.

SEC Weekly Honors
Georgia gymnasts were honored five times by the Southeastern
Conference this season. Courtney McCool was twice named SEC Gymnast
of the Week while Shayla Worley was named SEC Freshman of the Week
two times and Christa Tanella was named Freshman of the Week once.

McCool earned the first weekly honor of the season after she scored a
meet-high 9.925 on floor in Georgia’s final routine of the meet to
help the Gym Dogs rally past No. 7 Stanford on Jan. 9. She also
earned the honor Feb. 26 against LSU after she finished first on
floor with a 9.950 and tied for first on bars and beam with a 9.875
and a 9.925, respectively.

Worley was named SEC Freshman of the Week in two consecutive weeks.
She won her first career all-around title with a 39.500 including
season-high scores on beam (9.925) and floor (9.950) in addition to a
9.775 on vault and a 9.850 on bars vs. No. 11 Kentucky on Feb. 4. She
claimed the all-around title the following week against Arkansas.

Tanella earned freshman honors after claiming her first career event
title with a 9.850 on beam in the regular season finale against NC
State.

Georgia led the country this year in average attendance - both home
and away. A total of 108,719 fans watched the Gym Dogs’ 11 regular
season meets this season - an average of 9,883 per meet. That is
1,000 more than second-place Alabama’s average of 8,508 per meet.
