ATHENS, Ga. --- For the third straight year, Georgia will serve as one of the 15 hosts for the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility Jan. 28-31, 2011, it was announced by the ITA.
The ITA Kickoff Weekend features 15 host sites with four teams at each site vying to advance to the 2011 National Team Indoor Championships. The 15 schools that win two matches at these events will be invited to play in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 18-21 in Seattle, Wash.
The first round matchups in Athens include Georgia vs. Oklahoma State and North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech. The two winners will square off for the chance to play in the National Indoor Tournament.
The other 14 host schools are Southern Cal, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas, Ohio State, UCLA, Florida, Stanford, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, Texas Tech and Illinois.
Georgia has won the National Team Indoor Tournament twice (2006, ’07) and reached the finals six times (1982, ’94, ’95, ’97, ’98, and 2009). The Indoors began in 1973, and Georgia has played in it every year except in 2003. This past season, the Bulldogs advanced to the National Indoor Tournament with wins over Northwestern and North Carolina during the the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
