ATHENS----Fans attending University of Georgia baseball games at Foley Field this season will have an opportunity to contribute to the Prayers for Chance fund. The fund has been set up for freshman infielder Chance Veazey. A 5-9, 175-pound native of Tifton, Veazey is currently paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a scooter accident on campus this past October. Veazey is back home completing fall semester classes online and plans to return to UGA fulltime next year and work with the baseball program. Veazey will be in Athens several times this season including at Foley Field Wednesday for the home opener. Georgia plays host to Presbyterian at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs are 2-2 following their first weekend of action in Waco, Texas. Fans are encouraged to contribute a dollar each time they attend a Bulldog home game. Last season, Georgia set a record by attracting 93,360 fans to Foley Field. Thus, the Bulldogs have set a goal of raising at least $100,000 for Veazey through donations at home games this year. Georgia is wearing a special “CV” logo on its uniforms and helmets in honor of Veazey this season. A limited edition Georgia baseball team hat with the “CV” logo patch will be given to the first 500 fans this season who make a minimum donation of $20. The UGA Diamond Darlings will be outside the Foley Field gates at each game this year collecting donations until the fourth inning. After that, they will be at a table at the end of the grandstand on the first base side of the stadium Cash and checks will be accepted. Checks should be made out to “Prayers for Chance Fund." “Chance is an outstanding young man who has made quite an impact on our team, and we are looking forward to him being an important part of our program for many years,” said Georgia coach David Perno. “We have some of the best fans in college baseball, and I know they will be excited to join us in supporting Chance and his wonderful family.”
